Un-Smart ID

Written July 2024

In an announcement that comes as no surprise to many of us, the new Labour government are planning to bring in digital IDs, Tony Blair’s long standing wet dream. Currently being billed as not compulsory, Labour has said that it will make things ‘easier’ for people. Beware the peddler selling convenience. Fast food might be convenient, but it can also make you fat, give you diabetes, and eventually kill you. According to the sales pitch, the digital ID will allow you to open a bank account with ease, or buy age-restricted products, like alcohol, without having the apparently huge inconvenience of showing a shop keeper your driving licence, or the bank teller your passport. Seems like overkill to me. Of course, this is just how it starts. No doubt eventually we will be told how successful this is all proving to be, how convenient and easy it is for those who have chosen to be guinea pigs, that actually, it will now be compulsory. Before you know it, you’ll be in your local supermarket, trying to pick up your weekly stock of Pinot Grigio, but if you didn’t put your recycling out correctly last week, or you ate too much meat, or you ran your tap for longer than permissible, alas, the dry white stays locked behind the supermarket fridge doors.

The Chinese social credit system works much this way. It is no coincidence that the world chose to use China’s template of lockdowns when Covid rolled into town. The powers well above the paygrade of prime ministers and presidents call the shots, and the ultimate, end goal is a one world government, under which all citizens on the planet are controlled. This statement always elicits eyerolls, and the accusation of tin foil hattedenss. But the reality is, I’m okay with that, because the evidence builds daily that myself and my fellow TFHs are correct.

In its current form, the branding for digital ID is carefully painting a picture of friendly, done-for-our-sake vibes. We will, apparently, be able to send parcels at the post office, rent flats, start jobs, ‘and much more’. Boom. There it is. The phrase that should terrify you. Once this is implemented and made compulsory, the ‘much more’ will become all too clear. Old systems will eventually be dismantled, and replaced with the digital ID, so that we are left with no choice, much like the phasing out of landline telephones. And, if you do not comply, you will be locked out of life. Like all ambiguously worded government speak, without firm definitions, the power is entirely in the hands of those who get to set the parameters.

Every area of life will eventually become reliant on this digital tyranny. It will become a necessity to gain access to healthcare, education, groceries, housing, utilities, ‘and more’. No doubt it will be called something snappy sounding, with the word ‘Smart’ in its title, a sure sign that it is specifically designed to make the user anything but. Smart phones, smart meters, smart motorways, all are simply devices of control and surveillance. We must resist this tyranny. Do not agree to put the power in the hands of those who seek to impoverish and enslave us.
